Midea Portasplit - Air Conditioning for Rented Apartments

The Midea Portasplit is a genuine split air conditioner (indoor and outdoor unit) that you can use in a rented apartment without any structural modifications. There is no permanent installation required: you simply hang the outdoor unit in the window bracket, connect the hose, and you’re ready to go in about three minutes.

Because it’s a real split system, it’s far more efficient than classic single-hose monoblock units that constantly pull hot outside air back into the room. Thanks to built-in wheels, you can also easily roll the indoor unit from room to room. I’ve had one since earlier this year (grabbed it in May during a brief deal for under €700) and absolutely love it.

Availability & Upcoming EU Regulations

Right now (summer 2026), the unit is sold out almost everywhere in Germany or listed at ridiculous reseller prices. Your best bet is to try to get one in autumn 2026: due to upcoming EU regulations, it’s currently uncertain whether it can still be sold in this form from 2027 onwards (check out this link). As long as you buy it beforehand, you’re safe and allowed to keep operating it.
